Mentoring

In order to help people who are new to meditation, a few sangha members volunteer their time to teach the four foundations of mindfulness, individually or to small groups. Mentors are not Dhamma teachers, but are experienced lay practitioners. The mentoring program consists of a four-week or four-session commitment and is intended to cover the basic meditation instructions as the Buddha first taught them, along with some essential Buddhist concepts. The mentor typically meets with his or her mentees for an hour a week for four weeks. Mentoring helps give mentees a foundation on which to develop their practice. Mentors usually make themselves available after the four sessions for additional guidance and help.

If you are interested in connecting with a mentor, please contact our current Mentor Matchmaker, Shelly Hubman at shubman (at) comcast.net .

We will have our own materials for mentoring on this site, but for now, please check the "mentoring" link on the Prairie Sangha website at prairiesangha.org, and check the books and references listed on the Resources pages of this site.
