Exploring Liberation In Present Moment Experience

This event is now open for registration.

The term non-attachment is a cornerstone of the The Buddha’s teaching. Yet non-attachment contains subtle implications that can be mistaken to suggest a withdrawal from what is beloved in our lives. This retreat will emphasize the profound power of softening into the present moment revealing the essence of non-attachment as non-reactivity that is inseparable from love and connection. This retreat will explore the role of mindfulness meditation in the development and refinement of this vital link.

Retreat Location: This 4-day retreat will be held at The Cenacle Sisters Conference and Center in Chicago, IL. The Cenacle provides clean and well appointed rooms for sleeping and spacious and peaceful surroundings for both sitting and walking meditation. If weather permits, The Cenacle also features a lovely outside lawn that can be used for walking and reflecting.

Retreat Description: The retreat will begin at 10:30am on December 28th, 2018 and ends around 12:00pm on December 31st, 2018. The retreat will be held in Noble Silence. Participants will practice mindfulness meditation, which involves moment-to-moment observation of the mind/body process through calm and focused awareness. We shall use the Buddha’s principle instruction on meditation, the teaching on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, as our guide. This retreat is suitable for beginners and seasoned meditators alike. The teacher will provide instruction and discussion, dharma talks, and group meetings throughout the retreat.

Teacher: We are happy to welcome Andrew Getz back to Chicago as our teacher and guide. Andrew has been leading meditation retreats for Insight Chicago since 2004. Andrew lives in California and has practiced Vipassana meditation for over 30 years, including four years as an ordained monk in Thailand and Burma. He has taught at Spirit Rock and The Insight Meditation Center in Barre, MA. Additionally, he is a long time student of the Diamond Approach.
