Attachment to Outcomes

I'm reminded of a story a friend shared:

When I do laps in the pool I usually “save” as many bugs that are drowning in the pool as I can, gently scooping them up and placing them on the deck around the pool.  I figure I might come back as a bug and what the heck.

So today was no different, except as fast as I placed them on the deck a starling would swoop down and eat them.

So much for a bug’s life.

After laughing at the absurdity, I reflected that regardless of the outcome for the bug, the intention is what is important. The outcome of any action is never up to us.

Do your best, but do not be attached to results.
